Leading Through Networks: Empowering Culture to Scale Purpose
- Client: St John Ambulance
The challenge: Evolving leadership for a more connected, empowered organisation
To deliver on a bold and life-saving purpose, the organisation needed to shift how leadership worked — moving from hierarchy to a connected, agile network of leaders who could respond to complexity, empower teams, and create the right cultural conditions for people to thrive.
What we did: Developing networked leadership and embedding shared responsibility for culture
We partnered with over 50 senior leaders over 6–12 months to reimagine leadership as a networked force for change — one that could unlock collective energy, agility, and cultural alignment.
- We built a shared narrative across the leadership community about what networked leadership means, and how it can shape an organisation where people feel connected, empowered and purposeful.
- We focused on cultural conditions — helping leaders understand their role in creating
the environment for change through psychological safety, shared purpose and distributed leadership. - We developed behaviours and mindsets — equipping leaders to let go of command-and-control habits and step into more empowering, trust-based ways of working.
The impact: More empowered leadership and cultural alignment
- A clearer, shared understanding of networked leadership and what it enables
- Stronger ownership of cultural change among senior and operational leaders
- A visible shift from control to greater empowerment, flexibility and trust
- Momentum towards a more human, connected, and responsive organisation, with leadership truly enabling wellbeing and performance from the inside out
